1. Describe your role at OOm Philippines as an Admin & Website Development Technical Manager.
I’m leading the department with a team consisting of designers, web developers, tech support, and quality assurance. I oversee a project from conception to implementation, designing and developing web architecture, and providing guidance on technical issues. Lastly, I help to organize the process, workflow & standards to be followed by the team to ensure we can deliver projects/tasks within the expected timeline and with good quality. Also, I provide the performance evaluation of the team based on the KPI standard that we follow.
2. What inspired you to pursue a career in web development, and how did you end up in your current role at OOm?
Ever since I was fascinated with programming since I was a college student I would always wanted to excel in programming subjects. It gives me a different feeling of fulfillment everytime I would do something new and solve difficult tech problems. I started Senior/Lead Developer in OOm then after 2.5 years I was promoted to manager position.
3. What do you think sets OOm’s web development team apart from others in the industry, and what makes your team so successful?
I would say nothing much different in terms of the development process but we do believe in giving chances to those people who want to be in the development industry as long as the company sees potential and good attitude/work ethics.
4. What’s the most challenging project you’ve ever worked on, and how did you overcome any obstacles you faced?
Nothing very specific but I must say the most challenging are those projects which clients are difficult to handle in terms of project requirements. Usually there are clients that keep changing their ideas to the point that we have done multiple revisions already but yet they are not satisfied. To overcome this kind of client we have them to better understand the situation and our ideas that whatever we recommend would be very beneficial for them.
5. What’s your favorite part about managing a web development team, and what skills do you think are most important for a successful manager in this field?
I love mentoring people that gives me a different sense of fulfillment as a manager. Especially when you see them improving and gaining new skill sets as a developer.
6. How do you keep clients satisfied with the services of OOm?
Aside from fulfilling client requirements we get them satisfied by providing high quality end results and providing proper recommendations that will benefit their company.
7. As someone who’s been in the industry for a while, what trends or changes do you see coming in the world of web development in the next few years?
In the next few years AI will become dominant in the tech industry. AI will actually help the web development industry to make work more efficient. Like this point there are beta versions already of AI functions added on wordpress core & elementor page builders. Also most of the design tools now are starting to adapt to adding the AI functions with their own platforms.
8. How do you stay motivated and keep your team engaged and excited about their work, especially when faced with tough deadlines or challenging projects?
I do my best to appreciate my team for the work that they do and by being transparent with them when it comes to the projects. I would encourage them to reach their best potential and excel in their fields.
9. When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing in your free time, and how do you find a balance between your professional and personal life?
I love watching volleyball games & reading sports news updates. Also I use my free time watching netflix movies/series (suspense/mystery) and looking at cooking recipe techniques on Facebook/YouTube.
10. What’s something most people don’t know about you but that you’re happy to share?
Before I would love to join adventurous activities like trail run & marathon.
11. What advice would you give someone just starting in web development, and what traits or skills do you think are most important for success in this field?
Ideally the person should have the determination & passion on what he/she does. Being a developer is not that easy as it requires a lot of hard work & dedication to become successful in this career. This is a type of job that is not usually routinary work scope as most of the time always new different types of projects/tasks will come in. Lastly, someone can overcome the stress if the person really loves what he/she is doing.
12. What piece of advice would you give your younger self if you could go back in time?
Never be afraid of taking the risks and experiencing failure. In my younger years sometimes I am hesitant to take the risk as I am afraid to fail on what I do.
